Building Blocks for Hair Growth

Beauty comes from within. Likewise, Biotin and Keratin are both found in our bodies. Biotin is an important building block for keratin and is a key part of making sure our hair is thick, healthy, and strong. Because biotin, keratin, and hair growth are closely linked, when our bodies do not consume enough of it, our hair follicles are more susceptible to breakage and damage¹. What is Biotin?

Commonly known as Vitamin H, Biotin is one of the B-complex vitamins that assist the body in converting food into energy. Biotin is naturally produced by the body as a byproduct of digestion. A normal and healthy body typically produces just the right amount of biotin to maintain healthy hair, skin, and nails². Biotin can be consumed through daily food in-take such as avocado, carrots, salmon, and pork. In addition to a biotin-rich diet, you can also use hair care that contains biotin for stronger strands³.

Biotin is well known for promoting healthy and luscious hair and preventing dryness and breakage. It is an important building block for keratin and can increase the rate of follicle growth. By strengthening the hair follicle, each strand can reach the end of its growth cycle⁴. Stronger hair follicles = better hair health and growth = less prone to hair loss.

What is Keratin?

We’ve all heard of a keratin treatment and the wonders it can do for our hair. Keratin is a type of protein that is found in the epithelial cells and on the surface of the skin. Different types of keratin are responsible for the growth and structure of fingernails, hair, and skin. When the outer layer of keratin becomes damaged, it affects the new cells that are no longer being protected beneath it⁵. This causes damage in the form of dry or brittle hair. Dry and brittle hair means hair that is susceptible to damage and breakage.

Applying hair care products with keratin can help smooth and fill in the damaged layer of the hair cuticle. Keratin acts as a protective barrier and helps hair become more manageable while decreasing frizziness, resulting in shiny, smooth, stronger, and healthier-looking hair.

Microneedling for Hair Regrowth
